From 2026. 1 January New obligation for car importers putting cars on the Lithuanian market
As of 1 January 2026, the requirement for car importers (business entities) to register with an organisation that manages vehicle waste management comes into force in Lithuania.
What does this mean?
Car importers will have:
✔️ Register with a licensed organisation AGIA or GIA
✔️ Or contract an organisation to collect and manage end-of-life vehicles (ELVs)
✔️ Contribute financially to the vehicle waste management system
The requirement applies to legal persons who import cars for business purposes.
Private individuals bringing a car for their own use are exempt from this obligation.
If you are involved in car importing, it is worth preparing in advance and checking whether your business will comply with the new requirements.
