Is an initial contribution required to set up a donor-advised fund?
Yes, an initial contribution is required, which is not set by law, but it must be in line with the objectives and scope of the fund.
How long does it take to set up a donor-advised fund?
Setting up usually takes around 5-15 working days, depending on the preparation of the documents and the workload of the Registry Centre.
What documents are needed to set up a fund?
You need the instrument of incorporation, the statutes, details of the founders and information on the objectives of the foundation. Depending on the form of incorporation chosen, notarisation or additional declarations may be required.
How is a foundation different from a public body or association?
The Foundation is a non-profit organisation, but its main purpose is to provide charity and support, not to act in the interests of its members or founders. It cannot have members and its profits cannot be distributed.
Is it necessary to obtain beneficiary status?
If the Foundation wishes to receive support from individuals or companies (e.g. 1.2% of the GPT), it is necessary to apply to become a beneficiary. This is an additional but important step after establishment.
